Welcome to the website of Catherine Bender, freelance flutist and music teacher based in Seattle. I perform solo flute music in a wide variety of genres for your wedding or other special occasion, and offer flute lessons for all ages. Please use the tabs above to explore these pages and learn more.
Catherine has studied and performed flute for twenty years. She received a BA in Music from Goshen College and an MM in Woodwind Performance from the University of Washington. Past teachers include Alicia Suarez, Rebecca Hovan, Sarah Bassingthwaite, and Donna Shin.
Catherine has traveled extensively and spent a year studying under Mario Caroli, international soloist and professor at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg in Strasbourg, France. She has also had the opportunity to take lessons with Walfrid Kujala, of Northwestern University, and Elizabeth Mann, principal flutist of the St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble in New York. She has performed with the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra and currently plays with a flute trio based in Seattle. Catherine has also studied piano for nine years and has experience teaching both beginning piano and flute.
